Exterior Painting: prep first, paint second
On an exterior, prep is not part of the job — it is the job. Washing, scraping, priming bare wood and renewing failed caulk is where the hours and the durability are, and it is the first thing cut from a cheap quote. Once the color is on you cannot tell whether it was done, until two summers later.

Why does exterior paint peel after only a few years?
